Plasma TVs are amazing, but they are usually more expensive than HDTV.

The problem with HDTVs is that up close the image isn't too great, while in Plasmas the image is superior. And if you have a small room or have the bad habit of sitting rather close to the screen with an HDTV the image looks sort of bad, while with a Plasma it will look clearer.
