T1 cost 399 for 1.5Mbps (both upstream and downstream), but you get quick service turn around because its really targetted towards business and reliability is important.

FIOS from verizon goes up to 45Mbps with 3Mbps upstream, a lot more cheaper, but i'm not sure how is verizon's policy in using T1 for web servers and etc. Unlike T1 providers who usually does not care if you are using it to host files and etc.

Hmm, well the problem with FiOs is still...

MB vs Mb

When buying server connections/home connections this is the key difference we must keep in mind!!

Many of us are fooled by "45Mbps" hey I can DL at 45M/s... AND UPLOAD AT 3M/s

No you can't You can download at 5.625M/s and upload at 0.375M/s on a good day, making it not even IDEAL for servers... 375K/s is absolute crap, thats not even maxing out my BW. (I only really get 800KBs download)

This is not because they are oversold (most likely are) or oversubscribed (that too) or overused (could very well be this)

For those of you who don't know, it's because its 45 MEGABITS... not 45 MEGABYTES! There is a key difference between the 2.

Megabits = 1/8 of a megabyte (8 bits in a byte )
Megabyte = 8/8 of a megabyte (8 bits, this is the byte...)

Meh, just some bullcrap we have to dealwith on a daily basis

Thanks for the info justin...

I too forget that sometimes, and it bites me when I make a mistake regarding it...

Who woulda thought, 100Megabit lan is really 12.5Megabyte lan... who invented this crap? It's so misleading!
