Well, I cannot be positive about Helio at all.
First off, all of you with good service should mention what cities you're in, that gives people looking to go with Helio a better idea.
I live in Orlando, FL and Helio's service (ala Sprint's service) is the most horrid garbage ever. I was ignorant going into Helio, not having researched taht they used Sprint's lines. Sprint is to Orlando what T-mobile is to the West Coast. (T-mobile is actually highly regarded here... no dropped calls ever, but I've noticed that people from the West Coast constantly complain about T-mobile). But I had known it was Sprint, I would have never even bothered.
So what did that mean for me? That meant dropped calls and no signal indoors. I even had to go outside to use the 3G net for Google maps and what not. Or there were moments where I had a signal for voice, but not for 3G. Completely useless.
Other problem: Ocean's have a high rate of defects. Google it if you don't believe me. So of course I had to get a defective phone. After 3 weeks of use, the screen blanked out. Black. The phone still worked, the screen did not. It's a defect because I read about it online, and when I called Helio, they didn't even bother to troubleshoot. When a company doesn't troubleshoot, it means that they are all too familiar with the problem and know it's a defect. Otherwise, most companies would lean towards questioning what you did to the phone to break it.
Speaking of calling Helio... problem #3... WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. Worse than old AT&T Wireless from years ago. When I first got my Ocean, I called to activate. They give you the typical, "It could take up to 3 days". But at the end of the first day and when I still had no service, I decided to call anyway... am I impatient or intuitive? Intuivitve, cause when I called back, the 2nd rep found that the activation people messed up. Less than 5 minutes later, I had service. Through all of these service calls, the reps sounded bored and uncaring or unsure of what they were talking about.
Then the screen blanked out. They of course were going to send me a replacement via FedEx and a label to send the defect back. Initially I agreed... but the next day, I added it up altogether and realized: This is the most touble I've had with any cell phone in my entire life, and that it was not worth it whatsoever. I called to tell them I'm cancelling my account and using their 30-day guarantee.
I returned both the replacement and defective phones and they said it would be up to 60 days to get my refund.
That was in July 2007.
It's now November 1 and I still don't have my refund.
Once I called and they said they were working on it. Another time I called and someone said they made a mistake and my refund request never went through. I called today and the nice rep (the first nice rep I ever talked to at Helio) told me that the request was finally sent on Oct 23rd... nearly 2 months after the supervisor admitted to a mistake.
Oh, and not only that... but when I went back to T-mobile back in July, I had to get a whole new phone number because Helio's errors prevented the old number from being ported back to T-mobile. Everytime I called T-mobile, they said they were waiting for Helio to release the number. Well, my cell is my only phone and after about 2-days, I could not wait for dumbass Helio and told T-mobile to give me a new number.
Helio has been nothing but complete and utter garbage from day one. I would never recommend them to anyone and you all see that I have good reasons. Those getting good service, more power to you, but from my perspective, you're the exceptions, not the norm.
