What is always running on your machine all the time? Seldom do I reboot/shut my machine down, if I do its either for an update or the power went out.

Always running:
Trillian - for work and personal IM's (don't ask how many user names, ugggg)
Microsoft Outlook 2007 - all emails (personal and work)
Xchat - for fun of course (no, not dal net either)
IE7 - with a couple of tabs open (okay thats a lie, mostly like a dozen + tabs open)
Trend Micro Client/Server Security Agent

Sometimes Music - lately Napster, yes the legal one, but when I am in my office, I have a radio next to me, and have yet to plug in my speakers so no music on the box right now, and if it is on - its muted when not in use (I despise beep sounds when I'm working and don't need to hear them).

Actually since my computer is sooo old and I always used to keep it on it is beginning to over heat more often so I shut it down very often to make sure it doesn't. Otherwise it freezes up and I probably won't keep it running as much when I get my new one just because of that... I would keep it on 24/7 for the past 4 years.

You need to get a geek handbook and upgrade that bad boy (or girl for that matter). I need to get some more Ram sometime, but I have been lazy about it - maybe come Yule time, gotta treat myself to a new gift sometimes. I work too hard and deserve it, thats what I keep telling myself. My motherboard has made it through two hard storms here, and the first actually took out: a fan, a window a/c, and sparked the MB - a little sodder made it work again, odd but true. I got one I guess that just doesn't wanna die yet.

haha, mine is too old to even try to fix I got it a couple months after XP arrived. So it has been about 5 years and had it's use in between those times (and viruses for that matter).

Hi,

I am always running Pidgin (forked development after GAIM), my firewall (Comodo Firewall), my mail client being Thunderbird and of course my Anti Virus - AntiVir. I find that these apps hog the least memory and are the most stable for long periods of execution.

I also mostly run STEAM, but that is not on a daily basis - more often every second day for the entire day.

why are you torturing yourself?

Music, i always have it playing, but it comes from different sources, its either Pandora, the music genome project, Winamp, if i know what i want to hear and where it is on my PC, Windows Media Player if i want to hear something but its a playlist, hard to find on my HDD, or i need to search for it, the search function in WMP11 is amazing.

other than that i usually have FireFox and Word running for work, and Media Center and Transcode 360 are always running in the background. for recording tv shows, and then for transcoding movies for playback on my Xbox 360.

Comodo Firewall & Anti Virus - AntiVir are good.
As for torturing myself, its b/c of hosting/design stuff I need to do, otherwise my play toy (when I get to it, is all *nix)
Many things that a person within a hosting company need to do (me) can not be done in *nix, so thats why.

What I want to do is, redo my win box for all work related things, then nix for all play stuff. Right now I have just the KVM switch between laptop (Vista) and PC (XP Pro). I got an empty tower in another room, need to grab another MB and HDD for (I cant believe I need more ALREADY) and set that up. I just don't have the spare time right now to screw with it. Don't worry one day you can be proud, but seriously for alot of business related things, you would not be surprised at two things:

The people that use Win proper and not have issues.
The people that use Fx/whatever other browser, and all their **** flakes out.

I always have an MSN Messenger window open, and am always signed onto that. I also always have a few tabs open on Mozilla Firefox. ITunes is always open as well, because I like to listen to podcasts whenever I'm on my computer.
