I doubt anyone with the right mind would, licensing is off the chart expensive and dump (if you really read EULA) and XP is still rocking for gaming due to drivers compatibilities

I've used Vista since Beta 1. It's got some great features, but at the end of the day I still run XP on all of my machines. That is until I get my new iMac

Yea. Vista is alright, is it just me or is most XP programs not compatible? Even when using the transfer system.

i cant say i am a big fan, i have been in the beta since build 5308 and i have a new licensed version of premium, it sucked

so i reverted back to xp, for which there isnt a process, i literally had to order the recovery discs for my computer

i think there are a couple things i could have done to help

first and foremost, a raid 0, Vista almost killed my SATA HDD with read and writes

second, i had 2gb RAM, but it was shared by the integrated graphics, so, more RAM and an independent graphics card.

third, the disc read and writes decreased when i installed a CF card and set it up for ReadyBoost, it was only one GB and the recommendation is twice what your system RAM is, so installing a 4GB cf card wouldnt have cost too terribly much more and probably would have brought the read and writes down to a more normal level.

other than that, using media software other than Microsoft software would help, as there were certain processes that M$ has installed that used up like 30 percent of my system resources

there are a lot of upsides, i mean, with a new version of windows releasing quite shortly, if they combine all the good they did with vista (networking, media integration, security, and eye candy) with improved versions of all the stuff they did wrong or just didnt change, it should be a pretty good OS

so i consider Vista a stepping stone, a means to an end if you will, its not a step i will voluntarily take right now, but it is a step in the right direction
