wow, I am surprised no one else has started a thread to discuss these things
alright, so, i have never used a Mac before, so the software upgrades are pretty much a foreign language to me
but the hardware has me thinking i want one.
first, the mac mini's with their upgrades are pushing some pretty serious processing power for such a small box and such a cheap price
second, the iMacs look like newer, more technical works of some highly paid artist, they are beautiful and thin, oh and HUGE, which i like (try doing tech journalism on one 15" screen, you'll see why size is important)
so what are you most excited about?/when is your expected delivery date? Edited by: jamesb

I've been a mac user for a lite over a year, never look back to windows except the random eelings wanting to build new custom system :p
The mac mini upgrade was a nice one, i think mac mini is a good start for someone who wants to give mac a try Edited by: ewdison

well, your suggestion led me to the apple website, where i price a couple things, first i priced the top of the line mac mini with a 23" cinema display
then i priced the lower end 24" iMac
the imac was $100 more, but the screen is bigger and there are the significant performance upgrades
i suppose though, that for someone who already had a decent monitor, the mac mini is a significantly lower price point.
also, i have heard some criticism about the black bar around the new iMac screen, personally, i like it
mean, i saw the bar from an angle from one of Vincent's photos, but i just saw it on the Apple website, and i like it.
first, it matches the black apple logo on the front, the combination of those two things being glossy black in contrast to the brushed aluminum of the rest of the PC, looks great
second, i dont want my computer to look like some cheap piece of crap because it is nothing but a screen and then all aluminum, if that were the case colorware's job would be done for them, they could just use car paints to paint the new iMacs, so the new iMacs needed something to set them apart from your stainless steel kitchen appliances or your aluminum filing cabinet, etc, etc.
thats just my $.02 though

Honestly, I was excited about the new iMac until I saw the black bar around the screen. It looks cheap and tacky, and I wouldn't want that thing sitting on my desk. It looks like one of those cheap LCD screens with the plastic bar around it to give the illusion that it's bigger than it actually is. I'm really disappointed in Apple this time.

I ran over to my local Apple store last evening since I've learned you have to see things in person to determine waht they really look like. Plus I wanted to see if they seemed snappier given the faster processor and faster FSB. I was disappointed that all they had were the old iMacs. I thought they were suppose to be available today. For what it is worth from the photos anyway, I like the black around teh screen.

We don't have a local apple store here but I plan on buying a Macbook within the next year. Probably not Pro since I won't need it but at sometime I may upgrade to the pro.
But that will be my first computer purchase of Apple's.

Applestore here is about ~45 minute drive, so I just order online if I order something from apple.
I want to buy a older macbook, the new ones are too expensive!

Yea. We don't have any near by so I can only buy it online unless I go out of state.
