I am sure you will catch on just fine and dandy - take your time, a teacher isn't everything.

i hate school

my Windows server 2k3 class didnt have a teacher for the first class, showed up second class, the last time the new teacher taught a windows class was server 2000, she is so clueless, i can tell i am going to have to teach myself.

my other classes are coming along fine, i need to throw together a box for Fedora for my linux class though, probably going to use my old Pentium 3 board/processor/RAM, i think i have a spare like 8GB hdd somewhere around here, that should be sufficient no?

also, if anyone knows anything about hacking, PM me, i am taking a Security + cert based course where a lot of our labs are apparently going to be attacking/defending each other in class

Hi,

Don't worry, I shared the same feeling when I was in school (and now) ;)

A Pentium 3 with 8 gigabyte hard drive would be absolutely perfect for a Fedora box - it should serve you flawlessly, especially since the Pentium 3 architecture are serious workhorses clock for clock.

At least you have interesting IT classes - the most interesting we had was Java - the rest were word processing

I wish I could help you out with the hacking bit, but while I earned myself the title of a notorious hacker at a local high school I attended, it really was just a coincidence that I ended up with the root password.

yeah, i remember CHS, the days of using Win 2k to get into XP's recovery mode without having the admin password, and then copying the SAM and hash files and using L0phtcrack on them to get the local machine password for all the desktops in the school, and then doing it again on the laptops

Yes, this was actually far more devious. I had the Administrator password for the network. It happened right after the whole Nimda fiasco where the school basically shut everyone except administrators out of the internet for close to the whole year.

Someone used what seemed to be a fairly simple program on a few of the computers in the classroom I was in to sniff out the admin password and then foolishly output it to a text file on the desktop. They obviously didn't know what they were doing because they tried this on 5 different machines and never actually used the password. I stumbled onto the file while being extremely bored one day and discovered that it did in fact contain the admin password. The Principal, Vice Principal and the networking teacher were convinced that I was the only student with enough knowledge to pull off such a complex hack.

Luckily I was able to convince them to look at the timestamp on all the files which showed that it occurred at a time when I wasn't even at the school, so I got off the hook. They still never completely believed that it wasn't me. However, I am now the notorious hacker Viper1255, as that was the root password.

Wow we're getting off subject now. I wish I could split topics but don't have the option.

Luckily I am all done with school. Back in my High School I was notorious for wreaking havoc on the pcs and network, but no one ever caught me. I did however force the admins to delete every students documents mid year
