Hey, this is a pretty techie webmaster related question.
If you could have a server, free of charge, what would it be? What specs would you put in it, what datacenter?
I would probably get a Quadquare Xeon (Clovertown) and 16GB of ram. As well as 2 Terabyte hard drives. Ideal datacenter would probably be DataBank as I have had great experience with there networks.

Hey, I've had bad experience with the planet. LayeredTech used to provider servers in there... and well they won't disclose many details as to what happened, but something went SERIOUSLY wrong at The Planet.... and it resulted in a very angry LT (I believe a lawsuit? I'm not sure) and a lot of customer downtime...
My other favourite datacenter is Savvis... it was great for a long time but with emerging technologies it's going downhill...

Hmm, so your power hungry? There used to be a server built buy a company that had something like 70CPUs but I can't remember the company name... I know it's out of production now.. it was like $70,000 to buy so I wonder why!

Yea, to hard to host. haha I guess it wouldn't really ever need to use all of it but would just be the status to say you own a server that big. :-)

To be honest with you. I could use it. Of course you have heard of virtual machines? Imagine how many you could host!? But ... in the event of a crash, you crash hard!
