A few cities have moved to wifi or other connections making it so anyone with a wireless router can get access to the internet across the city. A few cities have finished doing it and some are on there way. Anyone live in a city in which this is available as of now?
I believe a few cities in California have quite a few of these.

Yes, I believe you do have to pay for it. But I don't think it is as high priced as Satellite internet is... ;-) I know of a few cities that their mayors have been pushing to get it in their city.

I believe Wi-MAX is the wave of the future extending the Wi-Fi coverage in a wider capacity.

I know EarthLink has gone Wi-Fi as well, I believe Cox is heading that way too.

Hey! I live In toronto. We have one available all through downtown! It's pretty amazing. Sponsored by some hydro company too.
I was thinking, maybe one day I will go down town and check it out. I've only heard good things about it...
On second thought: Wouldn't it be funny if one of these networks got hacked, I mean, just the proof that it could be done would be funny!

Yea, only problem is with all the wireless when internet fraud happens and the police try to track down people it makes it nearly impossible since if people hack into the router they cannot track ips correctly just from the base. They need to make it somehow so certain computers can be tracked who knows how since the world is becoming wireless.

I know...
I've hacked thousands of routers (never fraud'ed while on them) but yeah. The world is becoming wireless...
I'd say mac address and keep a detailed DB... but then again... the routers mac would show up.. lol and theres always mac spoofing. GPS could be removed. There is no practical way to track :(
That's why they aren't focusing on tracking, as much as they are on stopping it all together.... and preventing it from ever happening.
