Apple "iPhone" Definitely on the Way?

Is this more false hope or will Apple pull another rabbit out of its ass?

During Apple's most recent financial conference call, the company's chief financial officer Peter Oppenheimer made a statement suggesting that Apple is definitely working portable music player with communication capabilities. Over the past several months, speculation accumulated on Apple's development in the mobile space, specifically developments in communications.

That would be sweet because it would be bluetooth capable. They got some competition brewing with M$ and Creative so they better come up with something fast. I'm sure they have a lot planned but a phone would be an easy seller b/c the 'ipod' trend.

Apple has pretty much made it in everything they've emerged in so far, so I think it's safe to assume they'll be successful here as well.

I'd buy one if they weren't going to be so expensive. I could on a mini-vacation for $500.

I have no doubt they'll be successful, but, personally, I'm still not sold on the iPhone.

$500 for a large device (which won't fit snugly in my pocket). Sure, it's more than a *phone*, but if I'm buying a phone I want it to do phone-like functions. During class when your phone starts vibrating like crazy, there's not groping around for find the off button - you have to physically take it out and use the touch screen to turn it off. And speaking of the touch screen, if I'm going to be using my fingers on it all the time, I see THAT getting gross pretty fast.

If you find it gross, you could always clean the screen often you know. ;)

I obsessively wipe the touch screen on my DS Lite, and THAT'S not even using a finger. It would be such a nuisance to constantly have to wipe this thing! Not to mention all the fingerprints that seem sexually attracted by Apple products. :p

While the price sounds scary initially, when you compare it to a Treo for example (399-550) it's not that much more ridiculous from a price standpoint. The features on this iPhone are much better than the Treo, and from a form factor and useability factor, I can already see the iPhone being better. It looks like the iPhone will have GPS as well, at least it seemed that way from the demo when they used the Google Maps feature to find starbucks, how would they know where you are without GPS? The position sensor seems amazing as well, where vertical or horizontally holding the device gives you different views and functions. Looks good! The 2 year plan is really the only downside I think.

I like the looks and sounds of the Iphone. However, I doubt if I'll every buy one. You never know though.

I believe the Iphone will be a huge hit for Apple and will hurt the Zune badly. It's true that the Zune can't compete with the Iphone feature wise, I'm sure the Microsoft (The creators of the Zune) will make a similar product to compete with Apple's Iphone.

What's the point of an Iphone? Isn't it just the same old phone with Itunes, Music, Video, and maybe internet? I mean, couldn't you get a different phone for the same price that already does those things?

It might be just another trend-hitter. Personally, it looks pointless.

An innovative device like Iphone combining the feature of a phone, an IPOD and a browser is worth taking a second look. For those on the road for most of the time like me, I would love to have one although I have to wait for more time since this will only be initially available in the US .

The price is up there, yeah, but it's going to be awesome. Look at how sexy that looks, and it's going to stuffed packed with features. I know I'm buying.

the rumor has it cingular is giving over a year of free service with iphone, so 2 years contract might not matters
