I understand the Flix on Stix doesn't have relationships with any major studios to do this, or any means to play this content back on a PC, TV or mobile device. Great idea, but how are they executing? MOD Systems is doing something similar, with new release movies on kiosks at airports today: http://pitch.pe/103624

Similar interesting news from the web:

A Campbell, Calif.-based technology company Dec. 6 said it has broadened its distribution platform to allow studios to offer movies on Micro SD cards for Android smartphones and related devices.

Mo-DV Inc.'s Universal Player platform heretofore didn’t accommodate content holders distributing movies and TV programming on USB flash drives and SD cards to the Android platform (version 2.1 and later).

CEO Jessica Fullmer said consumers prefer the portability of a flash drive or SD card compared to a DVD and downloading.

“Today’s viewers aren’t willing to deal with downloading delays, picture flickers, fade out and lost [phone] signals,” Fullmer said.

Indeed, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, in a recent analysts call, said the market for transactional video-on-demand on cell phones and related portable devices remained small.

MOD Systems with NCR Corp., and Flix on Stix, separately are rolling out select kiosks capable of distributing content via flash drives and SD cards.
