While I understand that smartphones are fast overtaking the need for personal camcorders, they aren’t there yet. I won’t be mothballing my flipcam. Compared to my Epic 4G (maybe not the tippy top anymore, but still a nice phone), my flip:
shoots nicer images, shoots better in low light, boots up and begins shooting faster, has a tripod jack, doesn’t run my cell phone’s battery down when I use it, takes any double-a sized rechargable or nonrechargable batteries in addition to coming with a rechargable battery pack,

The ONLY ways in which my phone is superior are: 1) I can’t forget to bring it with me because I can’t make it two feet out my front door without my phone and 3) it doesn’t require an intermediary step before a video is posted to the internet.

In every other respect my Flip is superior and will likely remain so for at least another year. I won’t say killing the brand is a stupid move, but it still makes me sad. I’ve been VERY satisfied with that product.
