I think this type of intervention is bad news really. It may be the way things are headed but I don't see anyone really complaining about their internet experience. Privacy? Google anyone? I need to prepare myself for the end of affiliate link programs. Can somebody please clarify that aspect of this story? Tracking cookies = affiliate programs. Period.

This is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Sure, none of us like to be tracked without our knowledge or permission, but an internet littered with untargeted, ineffective ads isn't all that great of a solution. We would all benefit from a solution where consumers are empowered to control and use their own tracking behavior for their own benefit--on their terms.

This is a bit confusing to me. Are they messing with all the online affiliate programs? Sure we put up the affiliate ads and tracking, then the browsers delete it. Great for the retailers! Confirm though, the only way affiliates get paid is by cookie tracking. I must be wrong in what I'm reading into this. I need to plan on deleting every affiliate link I have. Heh, Amazon needs their own browser so that their affiliate program doesn't die? Again, I surely must have this wrong, but messing with tracking means death of affiliate programs.
