"Comcast says my long cable run is responsible for the speed losses"

As this report said, ISPs should be held accountable no matter how they try to spin their way out of it! Shame on them. Don't sell it if you can't deliver. That's like selling HD cable to someone without an HD TV.

I have one of the 9000 netgear routers that SamKnows sent out with their special monitoring firmware on it. Each month for the last 10 months I received a personal emailed report on the speed, latentcy, packet loss in a graph, including upload and download minimum and maximum speeds measured on a daily basis. One thing it showed was that my Comcast Economy speed service NEVER reached the claimed upload or download speeds they are selling me. When I asked comcast about this they apologized, and then raised the monthly cost from $39.95 to $41.95, as though they really earned the right to shaft me more. As soon as DSL, or FIOS become available I will be cutting them loose. Sadly my ATT ipad broadband 3g service is better than the cable speed in every comparison test we ran. Comcast says my long cable run is responsible for the speed losses, maybe so. Thus buying the next tier up will likely also suffer the same below advertised speeds, no thanks!

Well, to their credit with these they actually have it right. Their statisticians are actual statisticians, and their engineers really know what they are doing.

And the snozzberries taste like snozzberries.

"If we can trust anyone to give us, the public, unbiased plain-number results, it’s the FCC, right?"

"Of course, with numbers like what we’re seeing
here and claims made by carriers around the US over the past few years,
not everyone agrees."Just let me know when the media decides gov. agencies should get a decent assessment of their work. They can't even collect data without suspicion, let alone execute their mandates to anyone's satisfaction.

I wish they included the Cable providers offering Docsis 3.0 levels of service, especially since Cablevision doesn't even offer a 30mbps speed anymore (If you have it you can keep it, but new customers get the faster service for $5 more.) - they have the 50mbps Docsis 3.0. I also know RCN has a Docsis 3.0 service as well. Many of these companies are doing this move to Docsis 3.0 due to the competition offered by the Direct Fiber lines, which is bad for the Direct Fiber lines because any competition smacks their profits harder as their operating costs are far higher than Hybrid-Fiber-Coax. Then again that was the only way Verizon could circumvent the Oligopoly laws currently in place as Cable services are considered a utility.
