Facebook Timeline Apps spreads Open Graph to travel, food, more

Facebook has officially launched its Timeline Apps platform, broadening Open Graph from its existing multimedia integration into the social network to cover travel, food, shopping, fitness and more. Announced back at f8 2011, Timeline Apps currently consists of over 60 "lifestyle" apps, including TripAdvisor, Urbanspoon, eBay, Runkeeper and Rotten Tomatoes, allowing Facebook users to share details of their hobbies and activities automatically.

"Soon, there will be apps for all types of interests, as more apps will launch over time" director of platform products Carl Sjogreen says of the launch. "Whether you love snowboarding, gardening, hiking, or knitting, or something else, there will be an app for you."

Timeline Apps obviously requires a Facebook user have the Timeline profile, which is believed to be rolling out as a mandatory upgrade from later this week. Meanwhile there's information for developers on how to integrate their services with Open Graph and Timeline Apps here.
