Facebook Oculus VR acquisition approved by FTC

It's time for Facebook to make their move with Oculus VR, the makers of the virtual reality headset Oculus Rift. This acquisition was announced earlier this year not long after GDC 2014, and the introduction of Sony's Project Morpheus – though there's no direct evidence linking the two events. Here we're seeing the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announcing that Facebook's acquisition of Oculus VR is A-OK.

This deal will be have Oculus VR turning into a Facebook company, but it's been suggested – by both parties – that Oculus VR will not cease to exist. Instead, the company will report to Facebook whilst remaining on their own operationally.

This means that – it's suggested, that is to say – that Oculus VR will continue to create the Oculus Rift uninterrupted. That said, there've been chats on either side of the argument whether this has been a positive move for the virtual reality company.

We've seen word on one side that the gaming apocalypse is amongst us. On the other side, there's word that Oculus VR might not have survived without Facebook's help.

Either way – call in the cows and put out the fire, this is essentially a done deal.
