Facebook now allows stickers in comments

Facebook's "Like" button has always been the perfect, terse way to lend your support to friends, family, and colleagues without having to go to the trouble of talking or even typing to them, and now the social network is amping up the wordless interactions with sticker support in comments. Stickers have long been available in Facebook Chat, but now you can inject a smiley face, wincing cat, or vaguely cloacal image straight into the comments field of your best friend's latest wedding update.

Quietly activated, with only a brief pop-up message highlighting the new sticker icon to fanfare its arrival, the feature is nonetheless likely to catch on swiftly.

Stickers have turned out to be a surprising hit in the messaging space. Facebook added them to Chat more than a year ago, following the example of instant messaging app LINE which records millions of dollars worth of sticker pack downloads each month.

Even BlackBerry attempted to curry a little sticker-based favor earlier in 2014, adding them to BBM.

Facebook offers a wide range of downloadable stickers to add to your account, with themes running the gamut from comedy chickens, Power Rangers, and Cartoon Network's Adventure Time, to gay pride and sports teams. It seems likely that they'll become all the more popular when Facebook users not familiar with Chat start seeing them turn up in their comments.
