Facebook Memories shows how much Facebook knows about you

It's probably no secret by now how much Facebook has on you, with or without your knowledge. You might not remember, however, just how far back you've been sharing your life's moments on the social network. That's pretty much what the "On This Day" feature was made for. But that's almost random and sparse. That's why Facebook is giving its users a brand new Memories page that brings together all those memories, yours or your friends, in one easily accessible place.

Memories are really powerful. They can uplift you in your lowest moments or bring an unexpected smile to your face. But rather than just waiting each day for those old Facebook moments to surface, Facebook is giving you the ability to walk down memory lane at your leisure.

Facebook Memories will include more than just what happened On This Day a year or more ago. It will have a section for what your friends also did or posted on the same day. But more importantly, Memories will also bundle some recaps into a short video or memories you might have missed since the last time you checked the section.

Memories, however, can also be powerfully negative and can surface painful emotions as well. Facebook promises to tread carefully but doesn't exactly mention how it'll be doing that. They will at least give users options to provide feedback, but that might be just after the fact.

In any case, Facebook Memories will be accessible both on mobile, via the More tab, or on browsers at facebook.com/memories. The feature is still rolling out to users globally, so don't panic if you don't find your memories anywhere yet.
