Facebook is down for real, its not just you

This morning Facebook was found to be having some down time across the United States and across the planet. You'll likely find your fair share of Facebook comments on Twitter this morning if you also follow that social network with a bunch of social networking pals. If you're thinking about what you could do in this time of peril, there's always the SlashGear Facebook portal for further exploration. Or if you're feeling adventurous, you could hit up the Space portal!

This down time for Facebook is a relatively rare thing in recent months. While we've written about down time for the social network many times in the past, in recent months – and years, even – the biggest name in connecting with friends on the internet has become more robust.

At the same time Facebook was out this morning, Facebook Messenger was alive and well. This suggests that whatever servers the web-based Facebook is using were separately affected. Separate and secure, on completely different wavelengths.

For those of you looking to access Facebook from a different direction, note that recently the social network has been working on Virtual Reality apps. This means you're going to be jumping in on your friendly system through a virtual reality headset in the near future – makes sense, as Facebook does own Oculus VR.
