That is where I like Adblock I use with Safari, Facebook already has ads and you can block them with Adblock

This seems like a horrible idea. Not very user-friendly to say the least… Siding with K141, I really prefer to use email. When did people become so scared to pick up the phone and just call somebody?

I closed my account last week and I’m laughing at what Facebook is becoming. This is not social networking anymore. I’m back to using email and phones, and those are working pretty well!

Couldn’t their old ad system pay for the service they provide? Also, these new ads will be in the way of people’s news feed instead of off to the side. That said, even if they could pay for FB the old way, why should they when they can be making more money and there is no major threat to them?

Nothing is free. NOTHING. Businesses exist to make money. Good businesses provide something that people want. If consumers like it, then consumers will want it. Once they want it, it’s just a matter of time before they are ready to spend money (one way or another) on it. I was never under the impression that Facebook was a nonprofit. Facebook ads generate income. I’m really mystified why this is causing such an uproar. Mechanics are paid to fix cars. Doctors are paid to heal people. Actors are paid to perform. It really doesn’t seem unreasonable that Facebook is finding ways to generate income to pay for the services the provide.

Honestly everyone who reads these news stories falls into one of the following groups: 1) Loves it, 2) hates it but uses cause “everyone” is there, 3) hates it and doesn’t use it because of some lofty rationale, or 4) doesn’t use social networking sites. Their responses to any news will be: 1) “it’s still gonna be great no one will leave”, 2 & 3) “this is it everyone has had enough and gonna start ditching this crap for {insert some other site}”, and 4) “meh.”

Don’t worry folks! The way congress is going, it won’t be long before Facebook gets its domain name shut down (right along with their little ads) when some company complains about some copyrighted content under the SOPA bill. It’s all fodder for the mill!

I’m not that big on Facebook but the ads aren’t that big of a deal. In fact I’ll gladly take ads if they will get rid of highlighted stories all together.

You fail to see the difference between sidebar ads and items in your news feed. Does AdBlock allow me to block stories from others? No, then why would it allow you to block the ads in your news feed?

They won’t be posting ads under your name. They will only be including ads in your newsfeed, much like a banner ad in the middle of a online magazine article, or an ad in your local newspaper. Companies offering a free service have the right to do the needful to generate revenue. If you have issues with it, delete your profile and end your affiliation.

It’s simple… install AdBlock. I never see any Facebook ads, including the “Sponsored Stories”

Companies offering a free service have the right to do the needful to generate revenue. If you have issues with it, delete your profile and end your affiliation.

How about we, the facebook users, sue facebook if it trys to posts ads under our name. If they would do so, it is simply fraud. period.
