Do you think they’d be interested in the hundreds of emails I’ve received from “Blizzard” threatening to shut down my World of Warcraft account and (non-existant) Diablo 3 account for attempting to sell my characters, and alerting me that my account has been hacked twice a day?

Its a easy way for them to validate email addresses. The vast majority of the FB end users would only forward spam from their current active email account. I read something recently about how they have alot (around 50 million) fake or invalid accounts. This also turns into where they can charge more for marketing to a email address that has been validated in the past XX days.

There’s gotta be some kind of sellable data in phishing emails. If Google throws their hat in the ring as well then you know there’s a buck to be made.

Paypal’s been doing this for years with the little-known spoof@paypal.com. It’s great for users, but certainly an uphill battle.
