I think FaceBook should stick to social networking and quit trying be all over the place. They will never be a Redbox or Netflix. I don’t think they will be number one to much longer there will be something better very soon.

I predict Facebook is going to be the premier destination to watch “The Dark Knight” online. They may trail in metrics however, if people wish to watch something else.

The pricing models are also entirely different. Netflix is a subscription service, so this will probably appeal more to people that watch movies on a less frequent basis.

Honestly, it’s a ways off if it will ever pose any sort of challenge to Netflix.
1) As you mentioned, FB is primarily a computer activity. People don’t use it much on their TVs, etc. and usually don’t have their comps hooked up to their TVs either.
2) Most people (that I know) want to watch a movie and not be bothered by everything else. If anything, they might pull out their phone for a second but that’s about it. Being bombarded by chat, messages, and news feeds just ruins the experience if you ask me.
3) Netflix is well entrenched on most media devices including comps, consoles, phones (and portables like the 3DS even), and TVs as well. It’s just too easy.
4) Like you said, no huge library. Building a huge library of titles like Netflix takes time, especially with all manner of contracts and payments that have to be worked out between FB and the movie companies.
