The premise of the article looked pretty interesting, as Netflix's stock is relatively cheap compared with a high around $300. It is an interesting notion that a company (like Google or Samsung) might be interested in buying it. But the details that support this premise seem shaky at best. An example, "And although Qwikster didn’t work out, I think Reed Hastings and his executive team are still trying to find a way to sell off the streaming business to the highest bidder." Really? Most of the articles that I read at the time said Hasting's attempt to split the DVD delivery business off was so Netflix could focus energy (and capital) on the streaming side. Hastings considers streaming Netflix's future. I agree that a bidding war MIGHT (20% chance) develop but that will be because of other reasons. One possible reason is because of the significant loss in stock price and subscriber growth because of the fiasco Netflix has had this summer that has dimmed the future of the company. Another reason could more closely deal with the fact that Netflix recently went into the markets to raise cash to help it with content licensing and expansion. A Google, Microsoft, or a Samsung with the necessary cash reserves, plus the need to expand professional content available for its mobile platform (as Amazon has shown with the Kindle Fire). These companies could use Netflix's current working relationships with content providers to expand the available content for its platform in other ways. I think these will be the main driving forces, not the desire of Netflix to jettison its streaming service, as the main motivator for aquisition.

- sorry, but i disagree about Verizon buying Netflix. Verzion recently announced a stand alone over the top TV and VOD service. THE only value Netflix has is its subscription list. It doesn't own it's content. The fact that it had STARZ content was an aberration. Someone at DISNEY screwed up the licensing to STARZ and STARZ was able to make a quick buck sub-licensing to Netflix. Streaming-wise, most titles lose money.

if only netflix wasn't hauled by its limited new movie streaming service(every few months netflix is aloud to post current films for streaming access) then netflix has potential. however, with the film industry say, Heck no your not allowed to stream our shows. netflix is limited. on top of it, there is a small rumor going around that micro$oft is sueing netflix because of a copyright issue on there streaming service on the xbox. because netflix makes copies for the streaming section, they have know copyright code written, meaning micro$oft is accusing them of pirating movies.

sure Netflix might sell the DVD rental and or the Streaming component , but if they sell the only division they are investing in it will be only after they are forced to file for protection next year due to a climbing unpaid AP.

I see this less about a bidding war and someone taking the company if they can restructure the content contracts.

Interesting read...The best way Netflix can strengthen its business is to strengthen its offering of movie contents on its on-line service. I stopped my subscription service due to insufficient content, despite my likes of the service. Most of the new movies and old good movies that I wanted to watch were simply not available on-line!

Seriously, I don't know how Slashgear pays this guy to write these articles.

"And the company that gives it the most cash will walk out the winner."

No sh*t Sherlock.

Some analysis as to who you think that might be and why would be interesting in an article like this, no?

Don't just close by asking a question.

I think it's your job to come up with one.
