Exclusive Stephen King novella 'Ur' for Kindle 2 buyers

As tipped earlier today, bestselling author Stephen King will be providing an exclusive ebook for buyers of the Amazon Kindle 2 and owners of the first-generation Kindle.  The ebook, titled Ur, is a novella about a love-sick college English instructor whose purchase of a Kindle leads to previously fictional characters and events crossing over into his life.

King appeared at the launch of the new Amazon ebook reader in New York this morning, to describe how he became involved in the project.  Describing his motivations as an opportunity to "get a new Kindle out of it", King began his novella two days before President Obama was inaugurated.

"At the center of Ur is lovelorn college English instructor Wesley Smith, who can't seem to get his ex-girlfriend's parting shot out of his head: "Why can't you just read off the computer like the rest of us?" Egged on by her question and piqued by a student's suggestion, Wesley places an order for a Kindle. Smith's Kindle arrives in a box stamped with the smile logo and unlocks a literary world that even the most avid of book lovers could never imagine. But once the door is open, there are those things that one hopes we'll never read or live through" Amazon press release

Ur will only be available to Kindle and Kindle 2 users, and is available for them to pre-order today.  Amazon expect it to be released at the end of February, at which point it will automatically download onto users' ebook readers.  More details on the new Amazon Kindle 2 here.
