I think Oracle's Larry Ellison wants to buy another fighter jet and maybe get that "2nd" super yacht he's always dreamed of having. Oh, he must also think his collection of rare and pricey cars needs to be beefed up. I just hope he gets his deposits back after Oracle loses this battle.

Actually, what's probably going to happen is Google will lose at least one patent suite and be forced to pay a few million in damages. The lawyers will probably take 80% of that. I'm just curious if Google will be forced to pay royalties on anything....

If the CEO of the company that made the decision is still willing to defend it, then that demonstrates the spirit of the original agreement was favorable to Sun at the time. Ergo, Oracle cannot credibly demonstrate that Google has strayed from the original agreement. This case is a waste of taxpayer money. I hope Oracle gets a clue or they won't last another decade.

Sun was a "good guy" company that got hit hard by a combination of market pressures. Taking a "harder line" on 3rd party java implementations would in no way have saved them, (The clean room implementation of a compatible product has LOOONG been recognized as a legal and healthy market practice) and would have been out of character.
