Escort's Max 360 uses tech to fight speed traps

Technology is driving the future. And with some of the recent automotive advances, that is quite literally true. For those of us that maintain full control of our cars at all time, there are still handy gadgets that help us out along the road. Using a GPS has been pretty standard for years now, but radar detectors have been around far longer, and manufacturers are still finding clever ways to upgrade them. Take the new Max 360 from Escort, for example.

Radar detectors used to be rather simple devices. They would detect a signal from a police officer's radar gun, and beep to let you know that you should slow down. That was great back then, but these days you need a bit more tech on your side. The Max 360 detects signals on the most commonly-used bands, letting you know anytime there is a cop car checking speeds. Unfortunately, this also means that anything else using these bands will also get picked up and reported. And that's where things get awesome.

The Max 360 keeps a log of places where it previously detected signals. If you drive by the same spot multiple times and it detects the same signal, it will decide that it is a false alarm, and not alert you about it in the future. This feature, dubbed AutoLearn is one of the few ways to deal with false-positives that plague other devices.

Another great feature is its database of red light camera locations. Escort has compiled an ever-increasing list of intersections that feature red light cameras. You'll get a warning whenever approaching one, so you can take the appropriate precautions. There is also a companion app that will give you various readouts, and crowd-sourced information about the road ahead. The best part is that if you do get a speeding ticket while using the Max 360, the company will reimburse you for the cost of paying it. If you frequently like to push that line, it might be worth the $650 retail price.
