Epson will be releasing the next projector in their MovieMate line, the MovieMate 55 and it looks like this one will be packing more features and a lower price tag. With a brighter light, this projector is sure to pique many a projector enthusiast’s interest.

Several specs for this new projector are now known. According to CrunchGear, several of these features include:

  • Projecting a 16:9 widescreen 60-inch image from only six feet away or a 120-inch image from just 12 feet away
  • Built-in progressive scan standard definition [480p] DVD/CD player
  • Great sound quality using two built-in 8 watt 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS® speakers
  • Compatible with Nintendo Wii, Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PS3, and Apple iPod
  • Integrates a new, brighter E-TORL lamp with up to 1,200 lumens to project light more efficiently, maximizing brightness and uniformity across the entire screen throughout the lamp’s life

Sounds good to me. This should be a good addition to the current projector lineup.

What does “two built-in 8 watt 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS® speakers” mean?

that means it has two 8 watt speakers that are built into the unit so you would see some pin holes where the sound comes out(like on a nintendo DS), 5.1 dolby DTS usually means 5 speakers and a sub woofer, so im guessing this is that simulated surround that gives the impression of having 5 speakers and a subwoofer but uses only two speakers.

But what no one is saying is that this puppy has a 699 price tag, which for a projector is actually pretty good considering most buissnesses pay at least 1500 for a good projector that lasts at least 3 years.

What is cool though is on the epson website this thing will do 1080p and has a 3000 lamp life depending on the settings you use. you have to figure the bulbs are at least 200 though, go figure.
