Elon Musk has banned hot tub talks about simulated existence

There's a chance we're all living in some super advanced simulation, but don't bring the topic up if you ever get the chance to join Elon Musk in a hot tub. Speaking at Recode's Code Conference 2016, someone asked Musk a philosophical question about whether it's possible we're all living in a simulation — and Musk, as you might expect, has been asked this question many, many times. So many times that he had to ban it from the hot tub.

"I've had so many simulation discussions, it's crazy," Musk said, "In fact, it got to the point where basically every conversation was the AI/simulation conversation, and my brother and I finally agreed that we would ban such conversations if we were ever in the hot tub."

The theory goes that there could be a simulation as advanced as our world, and so could we be living in that simulation? Such was the question Musk was asked, and he made a point to say that he's thought about this a lot, and he was kind enough to provide a real answer despite his apparent weariness toward the topic.

He launches into an explanation which is worth hearing directly from him in the video above. He points out how basic Pong was not so long ago, and how much our video game technology has improved since then. That's a rapid rate of advancement, and so given enough time, our games could one day become indistinguishable from reality. Is it possible, then, that we could ourselves be existing within one of these incredibly sophisticated simulations/games? Yes, yes it is.
