One of the big drawbacks of ebay is the amount of counterfeit merchandise that is shipped from china on this site. It is amazing that the goverment is not cracking down.

They claim to not allow counterfeits, but do a quick search and you will see for yourself.

The walmart of the internet, + fake merchandise.

I use eBay all the time, and hate them. If there was another auction site with as much visibility, I would jump to them without looking back. To eBay, the sellers (the people that make it money) are the bad guys. Every quarter they make it more and more difficult to do business with them. They rarely come right out and make restrictions, but instead give the sellers that jump through hoops better rankings in search results and better Powerseller discounts. The hoops are things like unrealistic shipment times, encouragement to use "free" shipping (no such thing), warranty periods that get longer and longer (this is used stuff we're talking about here), etc. I could go on for awhile. If you're a buyer, it's heaven. You can basically do anything you want without any repercussions whatsoever. Sellers cannot leave you negative feedback. Ever. Even if you buy the item, destroy it and then return it to the seller demanding your money back. Even if you buy the item and then demand a discount and free shipping. All you have to do is imply that you will leave negative feedback to the seller. eBay will do nothing to help the seller. Nothing. Sorry for the rant, but I hope someone with market power like Google can set up a real online marketplace for small businesses like me.

That is because Paypal is not a bank, but act/pretend to be one. As a private business, they have terms to make sellers jump through hoops of fire--just to get their money. The average wait time for sellers to receive their earnings is in weeks, not days. While they wait, Paypal earns interest on it, but does not pass the earnings to the sellers. Acting and pretending to be a bank, they handle large amount of funds, but without any state or federal regulations--even in case customer funds are no longer available, there are no insurance to cover it.
