Eagerly awaited No Man's Sky finally gets PS4, PC release date

Gamers keeping track of low-key/indie titles are likely to have known about No Man's Sky for some time. First revealed in late 2013 by developer Hello Games, it's quite simply the most ambitious game we've seen in a very long time. Players are basically dropped into an open-world space exploration game that's procedurally-generated, meaning no two planets will ever be the same, and there's almost no limited to how many worlds there are. Well, actually there is: over 18 quintillion, to be exact.

But now we've finally been given a release date for the game: No Man's Sky will be launching on both the PlayStation 4 and PC on June 21st, with pre-orders for the $60 title starting today. There's even an incredibly impressive, and limited, "Explorer's Edition" that goes for $150.

You would think with such an expansive description as being an open world space exploration game that attempts to replicate the limits of the actual universe that No Man's Sky would be this overly complex game to play, but it's actually quite simple. Players simply tasked with one thing: to explore. Each planet is completely unique with its own creatures, environment, languages, and landscapes.

If this all sounds a bit confusing, or you're left wondering where the actual "game" is in all this, you're not the only one. But nearly all the press coverage for No Man's Sky mentions some variation of the following: that the game is nearly impossible to understand after just reading about it, and it's the same even with hands-on time in a limited preview.

Anyway, on to the release details. The PS4 version will get a physical Blu-ray release on June 21st, as previously mentioned. But those planning on playing on PC might be interested in the No Man's Sky Explorer's Edition, which is limited to just 10,000 copies. Designed in collaboration with, and sold by, the online shop iam8bit, this special edition comes with a $150 price tag.

Inside the package players will find a PC game code for Steam or GOG (the PS4 version is not an option here), along with a hand-painted metal spacecraft model at 1:35 scale, and a display case. There's also a special pin and a "mystery item" in the box as well.

If that version isn't your thing but you're still heavy into No Man's Sky's art and design, the iam8bit collection also includes the game's soundtrack on vinyl, t-shirts, posters, and fine art prints.
