DuoPad trackpad adds touchscreen functionality to monitors

You might have a perfectly functional desktop monitor that meets all your needs, except one: touch support. Touchscreens have become such a familiar part of your computing habits that you might find yourself flicking or tapping the screen on occasion, only to remember that it lacks such functionality, relegating you to the use of a mouse. The DuoPad trackpad is a novel solution for this problem, lending touchscreen functionality to non-touchscreen displays using a large laptop-like trackpad with a little added technology.

DuoPad is a large trackpad that plugs into one's computer and, using what appears to be a camera positioned above the trackpad, produces a purple render of your fingers on the display as you move them over the trackpad. This way you can see exactly where you're touching on the screen, and control items the same way you would on a touch display.

The trackpad works on Windows 8, 8.1, and 10, and includes the different functionality you'd get on a touch display or on a trackpad, depending on which mode you're using. Different settings are available for things like adjusting the visual representation of your fingers on the display.

The folks behind DuoPad have turned to crowdfunding for the project, and they're looking to raise $30,000 USD on Indiegogo. So far about $5,000 has been raised with 46 days remaining. Those interested can get the "Very Early Bird" version with a pledge of $69 USD — shipping is estimated to start in December of this year, with it being free in the US and Canada and $25 extra for those located elsewhere.
