Facebook already does compare links as you subscribe, and has for a long time now. However, it does rely of peoples feedback, so things only get blocked if other users are willing to report spam. If a link is reported enough times (which isn’t a lot), then when a user clicks on it, a message comes up saying the link have been reported unsafe and the user cannot continue on their way to the web page/file. Not perfect, but the service does exist, contrary to your comment.

facebook is for morons.. And, you argument against me may be that well, “everyone uses it so it can;’t be bad”.. What percent of people believe in “GOD”. Because a high umber of people believe r use something does that make it good.? NO, that fact that it makes shit loads of money makes it good (for the owner cashing in).. Facebook does what they want with the information you supply (for free)..

Here is an idea: Facebook (or any given social network) should over profit sharing based on the amount of information (we will call it usage) you supply them. People that use the service 24/7 will received a small amount of money monthly. This idea will keep them profitable while making everyone else happy because they are receiving a pay check for their time.

People that work in corporations won’t use it. FB is blocked in most mid to large companies.

I can’t see why people would want to use this …

But I can see one really great benefit! All of those idiots who believe chainmails, send stupid mails of fluffy cats, etc etc would use facebook-mail. My inbox would be free from spam just by sending from:*@facebook.com to the bin. ;)

I can’t believe that people who send status updates like ‘Just bought a lottery ticket’ will be using Facebook for email. I would think the only people who would use Facebook for email are those who already use email encryption like TrulyMail, GPG, PGP, etc. so that they don’t store unencrypted messages on Facebook’s servers.

A ton of people already use FB as an email provider. Hopefully once they actually call it email, they will provide virus protection. Malware galore already comes through facebook and if they aren’t better with their email app, I can see virus attacks going sky high and places blocking FB just because of the security risks involved.
Seriously, how hard would be for facebook automatically to record and compare links sent to people’s walls and message boxes if test if they are viruses and/or have been posted on 50 other walls in the past 3 minutes, before allowing them?

This article almost was good. It misses the point. People ALREADY use facebook messages and they are horrible. Anything would be an upgrade and people are going to use it.

Taking over email, no, but a huge upgrade from the mess that is messaging right now.

And I guess one can pretty much guarantee that sent and received emails will be deemed FB exclusive property, and every single email will be kept (permanently), cataloged, and marketed to 3rd party entities, even emails that a user expressly “deletes.”

Anyone who uses FB email is crazy given FB’s MO to keep and market all use data, ‘private’ or not.
