RIM has strange culture and self distruct political environment.

In RIM if a new hired person figure out major problem and introduce efficient approach, both manager and his buddy group member will proof their wrong approach works. just like someone point out driving a car is right way, pushing a car is wrong way, then both manager and his buddy group member will hate you, and proof that 3 person can also move the car by pushing it. cheating email will be sent to some vice president, saying like: see, the car moving, pushing a car is a natural part of the process, in order to deny new hired contribution of introducing skill of drive a car, they have to deny merit of driving a car.

It is very strange company culture and strange company political environment, it promote stealing and cheating skill. RIM’s management may be a typical instance in MBA course.

This culture deny or steal hardworking team members’ contribution/innovation, generate strange political environment, destroy RIM.

you guys are missing the point: BB10 is a new SYSTEM, just like the Apple system ONCE WAS, improvements will have to be done. you guys sound like pathetic and get to the core of the issue—even i can write and do a better analysis than you guys can.

They effed up when they decided to take the Curve 8300 which was a smash success and turn it in to the cheap model. If they had made slight improvements to that phones screen and thickness, they would be rivaling iphone. Instead, they turned it in to a cheap piece of plastic with a mushy keyboard.

They were about a year early on the Storm too.

RIM’s devices and services will need to be good enough to compete with the iPhone 5, Android 4 (or 5), and Windows Phone 8. Perhaps they will be. I certainly hope they will be. But I didn’t see enough in Orlando to assure that’s the case.

All the apps of WP7 will work with WP8. It has already been confirmed officially. And blackberry has been selling BB phones since a decade. Lumia started selling months ago, and i suppose the lumia 900 is still a bestseller on amazon and AT&T. So think before you write

what are you even talking about? The new windows phone operating system will start from scratch with no compatibility with previous apps. Second, Blackberry still sells more BB7 phones per quarter than Nokia does window’s phones, even with an outdated platform. Get a clue!

I was actually pleased that RIM did not spend much time touting QNX fundamentals, and instead focused on elements of BB10 that have clear consumer benefits: the UI, keyboard, and camera. Past RIM management was caught up in the elegance of the underlying code (and not just in QNX, but in the radio stack as well) and lost sight of what BlackBerry customers care about. As I wrote in the column, I don’t think the UI/keyboard/camera mode are enough to drive sales on their own, but at least these are all things that factor into a consumer value proposition – “microkernel architecture” (even self-healing bug resistant microkernel architecture) doesn’t.

It’s looking grim for RIM. I really want to see them succeed, if only to offer consumers more choice in the market, but it’s looking less likely by the day.

Sad, cos QNX (the microkernel) is far more capable at certain stuff (mainly mobile-centric, embedded..etc) than either Linux or Darwin.

i heard that enterprise security is loston BBOS10. If that is the case, RIM lost any advantage it had to hld onto business clients who requireit. Battery life already took a plunge on the Bold 9900/9930. As the market already has proven, an awesome keyboard is not going to do it for RIM

1. I would be interested in what the PAID attendance was at BB World. I read quite a few posts that indicated “well RIM footed the bill for me but I still think BB/RIM is the best operating system in the world and that RIM is back ” …. problem is that as your post points out – RIM didn’t show much and if great UI sold devices WebOS would still be here.

While RIM sat and was overconfident Facebook, Whatsapp, KIK, et al — created multi-platform solutions that put BBM to shame.

Tip: It’s already too late to license BBM cross platform. (Hint: Facebook Messenger is going to eat BBM’s lunch)

A journo myself, and a BB user, I feel it is unfortunate that such a brilliant company is where it is. Somehow, reminds me of Nortel Networks! Incidentally, that was Canadian too. We know what’s happened to them. Too little, too late. The camera features are more or less available in newer Android phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X. I use a curve on OS6. Wouldn’t have been able to upgrade to OS7 anyway. Even if I buy a costly OS7 device, I would be able to upgrade to BB10 by what I am given to understand. If I can, I’d again just blame them for not being clear in their communications regarding it!
