Also to follow up on panlondon, BB selling point is its corporate email and security. Android is not secure infact its as leaky as a siv and anyone who has anything they want private should avoid like the plague. The next thing is that BB is about email or corporate users who 90% use exchange an ms product and windows another ms product controlled by AD all things that work well with windows phone not to mention sharepoint. MS is the only logical option for them as they could pool resources and ms will tie in nice however android comes with almost as much overhead as having your own os.

Windows Phone is extremely efficient, it now runs on 250MB with the new version, and I am yet to meet someone who is totally happy with their android device. Android only runs well on highly powered phones, blackberry do have a market in the mid range too. Android is also not safe and therefore for business use a non-starter probably. If their new B10 system is cr*p the only realistic option is windows phone which then bodes well with the enterprise, and office, sharepoint.

I think a BB with WP running would be amazing. BB's keyboard cant be beaten and how well WP can run on low hardware could take this combo down an interesting path. BB could have BB apps built in like every other WP does making it one of if not THE best corporate phone on the market. Black Berry Torch with WP7... take my money now.

MS will not offer RIM anything like the deal struck with Nokia; all their money is spent !
RIM have a unique business product which needs strengthening with a wider product range (10" Tablet), business related apps and a stable OS.
They have all the component parts, they just need to get them polished up and release to the market asap !

I think that would be a terrible idea! RIM is a household name and they need to maintain a level of differentiation. They would be better off taking the source code from the NSA built secure android and adapting to a corporate build. In addition, they already have a curated app store for android apps that they could continue with. This would provide an option for those not comfortable with the openness of the play store and developers have already made thousands of apps for the platform that they could submit. From there, they could make BBM, BES, and BIS for android as a blackberry exclusive. Then, use a custom skin to make the launcher look and feel very much like a berry. The development costs for them would plummet, they would immediately have a large app catalogue, they could use the nice combination of faux leather, metal, and textured plastic to make very appealing handsets for the enterprise and consumer markets. The best part is, they could do all of this in a matter of a few months without exorbinant licensing fees from MS!! Quicker than they can get the beta out for BB10!!

I think this would be the best option. RIM also has a massive patent trove that they could use if MS tried to extort them like they have to the other android OEM's.

They already turned down recommendations to switch to Android, why would anyone think they'd switch to Windows? They're going to stick with BB10 and drive a once great company into the ground.

good "out of RIM box" thinking...just might work. RIM's execution of calendar is already superior to Microsoft's (for shame, MS), and completing the experience with WP8 along with the vaunted bb keyboard would make BBsemi relevant again without throwing away its identity.
