DisplayPort receives approval by VESA

Worth Reading?

NoYes

This week the aptly-named DisplayPort 1.1 has been approved by VESA as an industry standard. This moves them a step further in trying to replace DVI and VGA ports on modern PC’s. More importantly, it gives them more ground in their fight against HDMI for the high-definition connection standard.

Unfortunately, they’re already a step or two behind, as HDMI has already been out for some time and can be found on many of todays TV’s.

Luckily for them, they already have some strong backers in the PC industry. AMD, Nvidia, Intel, Lenovo and Samsung have already committed themselves to the DisplayPort cause.
