DirecTV updates iPad app for 3G and Wi-Fi streaming

If you have an iPad that you take with you on the go and subscribe to DirecTV the company has announced a new update for its app specifically for the iPad. The app has allowed people to stream video over home networks for a while, and DirecTV has now updated the app and made it much more usable. The newly updated app now allows the streaming of TV shows and movies over 3G or Wi-Fi connections from wherever you are.

Sadly, there are some limitations on the content that you can stream so don't get too excited at the thought of streaming your local TV favorites. The content is limited to streaming from Audience Network, HBO, Cinemax, Encore, Sony Movie Channel, and Stars. The app also has a social model that allows you to follow friends are watching on twitter or Facebook.

The update also brings Miso check ins and allows you to resume watching programs on the iPad where you left off. Obviously, you have to be a subscriber to DirecTV to be able to stream the programming. Check out the video below to get more information on the app.
