Tivo has been fighting to just stay alive in the market. Its sad when you have to put allot of your R&D budget into legal defense against someone stealing from you. Cable, Dish, and Directv have been making a kill by violating Tivo patients. Now Tivo is having to concede there legal rights because these companies have the money to keep it in court and Tivo is going broke. Way to kick the underdog while he’s down.

I waited for this thing for three years, keeping an old standard definition Tivo while it was endlessly delayed. I finally gave up and got the DirecTV branded DVR and I’m pretty happy with it. I can’t hack it, but I wasn’t getting that much out of hacking Tivos anyway, and they kept making that harder and harder to do.

Tivo has lost the ability to get product out the door. Everything they’ve produced lately has been delayed inordinately long, especially this product (and you know what? I’ll believe it when I see it.) The only thing they seem to be able to do on schedule these days is file IP lawsuits. They’ve become a patent troll with a small, incompetent hardware operation attached. And I hate to say that because in its day I loved Tivo. I was a loyal customer for a decade. But no more.

I will never pay such expensive retail prices in stores again. Especially when I also sold a 40 inch LED TV to my boss for $ 657 which only cost me $ 62.81 tobuy.
