DirecTV Sunday Ticket without satellite? It's coming

DirecTV has one feature that sets them apart in Sunday Ticket. The add-on service, which gives you access to more football than you could possibly watch in a day, likely keeps many subscribers hanging on. It seems the service may go into standalone mode for the desktop or mobile device.

A promotional page has been spotted, which shows the tiered service offerings from DirecTV for Sunday Ticket. It's there that we find a Digital offering, wherein a computer, tablet, and smartphone are highlighted. The silver bullet here is that you won't need a satellite subscription to view Sunday Ticket, making the app that much more useful.

You won't get the full complement of services — the Red Zone and Fantasy Zone channels are missing, as is the ability to stream to a game console — but this is a huge plus for cord cutters. Live sports has often been looked at as a reason not to forgo a cable or satellite subscription. At least football is now covered.

There has been no official announcement yet, but this is about as good as it gets for football fans who want to cut the cord. If users on Android or iOS get the respective casting feature (Chromecast and Apple TV), this could end up causing more cords to be severed.
