Digital Foci Photo Safe II: up to 160GB of portable photo backup

Digital Foci know how frustrating it is to run out of space on your digital camera, which is obviously why they're plugging away with version two of their Photo Safe.  In effect a battery powered external hard-drive with a multi-format card reader strapped to it, the Photo Safe II allows you to plug in your camera's (or camcorder's, or cellphone's) memory card and instantly backup all the media on it.

Once everything has been transferred across to the HDD, you can wipe the memory card ready to take hundreds more holiday photos that nobody will ever want to look at.  Version two of the drive is smaller than its predecessor, and adds support for MS Duo and miniSD cards.  There's also a new rubber door to prevent dust or cats getting into the card slots, and a battery slot that is supposedly easier to use.

80GB or 160GB capacities are available, with remaining space (together with battery life, which partition is being accessed and copy status) indicated on the backlit LED screen.  Digital Foci claim transfers are performed at up to 5MBps once you hit the Auto Copy button, with the Photo Safe showing up as a normal external drive once plugged, via USB 2.0, into your computer.

The Digital Foci Photo Safe II is available now, priced at $140 for the 80GB model and $190 for the 160GB version.
