Remember that whole fiasco last week about the install time for Devil May Cry 4 on the PS3? While Capcom had a humorous (and serious) response, mostly claiming that it will decrease load time later in the game while giving you plenty of time to eat. The guys over at Penny Arcade smelled bull, so they got ahold of both copies of the game and put their load times to the test.

Apparently Capcom was right on the mark with the amount of time it would take for the game to install, they clocked it at 21 minutes. While Tycho didn’t comment on just how many sandwiches he was able to both make and consume, he did have a few words to say about the load times:
I now own both versions of Devil May Cry 4, and I can tell you that the benefits of the twenty-one minute install are completely irrelevant. I now own both versions of Devil May Cry 4, and I can tell you that the benefits of the twenty-one minute install are completely irrelevant.
This raises a big question. Why do you have to install 5GB of data onto your hard drive if it doesn’t make that big of a difference? Surely you could have given players the option to play without doing so. Perhaps there’s a deeper issue at hand. Then again maybe I just like a good conspiracy theory.
[Update] Several readers have written in stating that they are noticing significant differences in load times between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. While we are currently unable to test this out ourselves, most people seem to agree that the 20 minute load time cut down on the amount of time you have to wait later in the game.

PS3 bashing ahoy on this site. Not run by 360 retarded fanboys by any chance.
NeutralFunny how every other non-360 bias articles state that there is a difference even if its minor. What a load of old crap

You might want to re-read the article again. At no point did he bash on the PS3, that’s just what you wanted to see. Looks like he was bashing on Capcom for forcing people to put 5 gig of data on their PS3.
I’m a PS3 owner, and it’s people like you that give us a bad name.

Yep, typical response from 360 users. An option they can’t even tap into is automatically discounted and refuted as irrelevant. Given Capcom’s history and pedigree with games, and given ‘Penny Arcade’s’ lack thereof, I’m more inclined to believe Capcom.
Nice try though
(By the way, I OWN the game, and my roommate OWNS it for 360, and he says otherwise.)

Well IGN timed both versions a few days ago and they found that the PS3 version loads some areas slightly faster but others were 3 times faster. I suspect Penny Arcade didnt do enough research.

The whole point of the Penny Arcade snippet is basically saying – When you go out to lay 65$ on the brand new game and get home, You have the option of either waiting almost a half hour to play it on the PS3, or just play it immediatly on the 360 –
NeutralAs far the loads times – we all know Blu-Ray discs have molasses loading times – And Capcom is stating the obvious. If the loading times are 2-3 seconds (for example) in difference, then he is correct that it’s irrelevant.

Shorter load time is SHORTER load time. Is two to three sec doesn’t matter? How can a game load from harddisc slower than game load from DVD disc? It doesn’t make sense.
On top of that, how did they measure it?? DMC4 has over 50 load sections. Did he measure every section’s load time. My stake is the test is only done in one or two section early in the game. Time will tell.

The reason is that the PS3 Blue Ray is a Double Speed which will lead to very slow load times. This probably should have been done for Orange Box which would have helped the load time on there as well.
Either way, I am happy with DMC4 as the Load Times are extremely fast, even if 360 is able to match it. That is if this article is even true.
From what I last read, the PS3 load time is faster than the 360 from a variety of sources.
NeutralHAHA February 12, 2008
Nice try guys. I have the PS3 version of DMC4 and my buddy has the 360 version. The PS3 load times are sometimes half that of the 360’s. Trust me, it helps keep the game running smooth. Keep on spreading that propaganda!

well ive got it on ps3 and loads a little quicker to my mate who has it on 360…but i take it they didnt read the article from capcom.
states that they didnt to speed the load times up to similiar load times to the 360. because the blu-ray player is only first gen which loads slower to a normal dvd player which the 360 is. so if they didnt do it you would be waiting for longer. so im kinda glad that they did it i didnt mind waiting 20mins.
NeutralHuh?? February 12, 2008
I just got watching this head to head comparison on IGN’s site and the video clearly states that the loading times on the PS3 are cut in half compared to the 360 version. Loading times for walking in and out of doors (which are done every 3-5 minutes) and in and out of cut scenes. Trust me, after playing DMC4 on the PS3 I’m glad that everytime I walked through a door I didn’t have to wait 6 seconds to get through.

Hahaha, whats funny is how we all ignore the whole reason for the download of the 5GB of data to the PS3 HD. Yes, Hard drive loading is definately going to be faster then loadinf from a 16x DVD rom drive, so I agree, that the PS3 should load faster. However, we seem to be ignoring the fact that the whole reason this was done was because if it wasnt, the PS3 load times would be way worse. the BR drive in the PS3 is in many cases 50% slower then a 16x DVD rom Drive. Hence, if Capcom had not done this, the load times on the PS3 would be twice as long as the 360 version. this was done, due to a technical flaw on the PS3 version. its a cover up, simple as that. Ill leave this one where it is, but the so called “feature” is more or less a “fix”.
Anyway, I played the demo, it looks pretty good, I couldnt beat the second chapters boss though, the big demon guy. he was hard as heck.
Everyone go back to gaming now, k thanks.
