It is a nice experience to go outside and buy gifts for our near and dear ones. But the most problematic is to find the suitable gift. Thanks so much for an unbiased, fair review of the Tablet…I had a Tab… now have a Dell Streak 5 and love it… I think it’s the best compromise of function and portability.

This review is the first I’ve read that is a straight on review without underlying biases coming through.

Samsung tab display resolution is 1024×600. I’ve experienced next to
no issues with compatibility or lack of access to @androids market.
Dell streak = failed

i really think it has to do with cost and compatibility issues, not all resolutions are going to work on android 2.2. so lets say the device has a higher then 800×480 res, will android 2.2 be able to display that resolution? i am sure the cost of higher then 800×480 res capacitive monitor would put these devices even further out of reach of the average consumer.

also i think they are using low res screens to keep costs low, and to avoid issues with using an OS built for lower res devices such as smart phones. the OS was never meant to be used on a device with such large resolution. (at least thats my guess…) probably more cost factor, these things already cost twice as much as a netbook with better specs =/

in the world of tablets i think things are changing as fast as they can, the fact that they are trying to use cell phone OS such as android 2.2 just goes to show how unprepared the world was for tablets. tablets were built before a built to purpose OS was made for them… Don’t forget tablets are fairly new to the general consumer. although tablets have been around for some time, the mass production of tablets for the average person is a new thing. i think over this year and into 2012 we will be seeing some rather amazing leaps and bounds in the world of tablets.

wow, looks ok, but I don’t like Android (Fragmentation, etc…).

The problem is that the Galaxy Tab has better software. There are optimized apps like the email app, etc… The Streak has none… and although the Streak has high internals, the display cuts it for me…

If I would ever think about buying an Android tablet, I would either buy the Galaxy Tab, or wait for Honeycomb…

So what was the point of putting a tegra2 in a device with an 800×480 resolution? I just don’t understand that at all. That right there is a deal breaker. I don’t care if it gets Honeycomb next week.

Manufacturers have to stop thinking it’s okay to put a 800 x 480 display on ANYTHING except a phone (and even that’s going to be outdated soon enough).

Tablet’s are primarily for web browsing, and the internet in 2011 (more like mid 2000 really) is designed for a 950-1000px width. If your tablet can’t accommodate a “normal” website in landscape mode without having to side scroll or shrink the page to a point where the text is blurry, then go back to the drawing board.

Such a shame that a Tegra 2 was put in such an otherwise low specced tablet. Anyone feeling brave hotwiring dell streak 7 internals to a tab display? >:)
