Hear, hear. I had the HPTX2500z and though the actual tablet mechanism worked like a DREAM, the rest of the internals were a nightmare.

If M$ would just stop yapping and LISTEN for a moment, they would realize that they should have just created the Courier, and would hopefully stop fighting with their loyal followers.

Everything is a fight with them, and maybe that worked back in the 80s and early 90s, but times are tough, and consumers have a much louder voice (thank you SlashGear).

While both of them come from a camp that isn't generating a lot of buzz, they are making good points. Tablets aren't finding their way in to enterprise environments. A strong reason for that being is the build of the devices. They're not modular so you can't replace parts and keep the device running longer. No tablet manufacturer can provide the scale yet either to meet an enterprise demand and the consumer demand right now either, but this could be resolved if the tablet market becomes bigger. Most enterprise laptops cost around $700-$800 dollars and are quad core i5's these days.

It does seem more likely that super phones will start to eat away at the tablet market. I think we can already see that starting to happen with the dual core phones and the increase in the screen sizes. This is the reason why Apple didn't want to make a phone with anything larger than 3.5", but the success of larger screen sizes is pushing Apple with the rumored 4" iphone5. If the iphone becomes larger it will start to cannibalize some iPad sales since they run nearly all the same software. How much is hard to say, personally I doubt it would be significant, but I could be wrong.

Personally, I really like the Dell Streak 5, I think Dell was on to something there, but their inability to update the software in a timely manner, their craptastic marketing efforts and choosing ATT of all carriers was like slapping a "Do not buy me" label on the phone. 5" seems to be a good size for a converged device. I've got a Vibrant and after a few months to me it seems to small and the text isn't sharp enough, I much prefer my wife's EVO for browsing or using Google Maps. I checked out the Streak 5 at Best Buy and it provided a significantly better web experience. But that's my preference. 7" could be a good size as well, but it's not quite as mobile as the 5.

Dell just seems bitter, but Mundie does bring up a decent point (i.e. Tablets like the iPad aren't really filling a truly unique niche and may just endup being subsumed by either more capable phones (like PDAs did) or more versitile laptop-like devices (like the Asus Eee Transformer, or the Atrix Dock).

Mundie's view is extremely dangerous though, since, if wrong, that way of thinking could cost Microsoft a possibly massive market. They should be doing everything in their power right now to create a truly tablet-friendly OS, not dithering about wondering whether or not tablets will truly last.

Let' s just say that if not for eBay and second-hand markets in general, I would not have owned a single Windows Tablet PC, let alone gone through three. (HP TC1100 -> Gateway E-295C -> HP 2730p, in that order.) So far, the most I've spent on any one of those is $575 on the 2730p, and that's with the best LCD available, extras like a webcam and 3G modem, docking station, and an Intel X-18M G1 SSD in place of a slow 1.8" HDD.

The HTC Flyer does have potential to shake up the market, but I can't believe that they'd (rightfully) tout the N-trig pen as such a massive selling point of the Flyer, then SELL THE PEN SEPARATELY. That insinuates that it's not integral to the Flyer experience. Not a good sign. I'm hoping that it goes where Microsoft as a whole dared not to and realize the Courier's promises of a good touch + pen experience.

Yeah, not so great. Has anyone SEEN the price of Windows 7 slates/tablets? They've got some kind of nerve criticizing Apple, who come in at the low end of the pricing spectrum, and at the high end in terms of the quality spectrum.

Everyone's grasping at straws ... but I think HTC will hit the nail on the head with their Flyer UNLESS they charge some inane amount of money for it.
