December launch for Verizon's Galaxy Nexus "confirmed"

There's been much weeping and gnashing of teeth over the U.S. launch of Google's Galaxy Nexus, expected to land first in an LTE version for Verizon. According to Business Insider, Verizon has missed the rumored November 28th release date and will launch the phone in December. The 8th is the latest in a long, long line of rumors, but there's still no official word.

We contacted Samsung directly about the issue, and they politely declined to comment. The Galaxy Nexus has been available for a week in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, but sadly Google's home country is currently devoid of Ice Cream Sandwich. The long delay has been a serious thorn in the side to Android enthusiasts, who were expecting the phone to arrive on American soil sometime in November. Verizon has a paltry sign-up page for the Galaxy Nexus, but it's hardly changed in almost a month, and doesn't even show a photo of the phone itself. A Best Buy promotional poster featuring the "Nexus Prime" for a November 27th release seems optimistic at best.

SlashGear has an exhaustive review of the Galaxy Nexus for your reading pleasure, but ours is the international HSPA+ version, not Verizon's seemingly rare LTE edition. We've also got an in-depth review of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which has its debut on the Samsung hardware. We'll be keeping an eye out for more concrete news on a Verizon release – whenever it might be.
