Intel logoI know plenty of people that still haven’t upgraded to boards that use DDR2 yet, so they are either going to be excited that they can jump straight to DDR3, or upset that DD2 passed them by.

That’s right, Intel has announced that they will be launching their new Bearlake chipset which includes support for the DDR3 standard next week.

The biggest concern at the moment is whether the performance gain will be enough to justify upgrading to the new standard. There are many different types of high-end DDR2 on the market now that have incredible speeds. We’ll have to wait until May 9th before we can see how the new standard stacks up.
