In a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences and the University of Florida show that the anaerobic organism Carnobacterium can survive on the Red Planet. This comes after years of belief that any Earth microbes that make their way to Mars via devices sent there, such as the Curiosity rover, won't survive the conditions. In light of this information, scientists have to be more careful than ever to avoid sending microbes to the Martian planet.

We heard today that the Samsung Galaxy S IV may ship in April with S-Pen functionality, which is exciting for all of us who love the Galaxy Note II. Toyota launches 2013 Crown series in Japan
Toyota has new cars rolling off the assembly line in Japan this week, launching both the 2013 Crown Royal and Crown Athlete. Judging from the press shots we see below, the new cars in the Crown series look pretty sleek. Toyota even made a point of drawing our attention to the grills of the cars in its announcement, which it says were "based on the shape of a crown."

Fujitsu blames underwhelming PC shipments on lagging Windows 8 demand
Windows 8 has garnered its share of criticisms in the last few months, and some of that criticism has come from Microsoft's PC partners. Some of them aren't too happy with the way Windows 8 has been supposedly selling, with the latest in the line being Fujitsu. Today the company revised projections for the fiscal year that ends in March, saying that total PC shipments will come in under the 7 million the company was originally planning on.

Leftover Halo 4 features found lurking in game code
We all know that a game changes very frequently during the development process - some features get fully implemented and make it to the finished product, while others are only partially developed and ultimately get left on the cutting room floor. It's no different with Halo 4, and today we're finding out that there were a couple particularly cool armor abilities 343 Industries had to do away with before shipping the game. They were discovered by the folks at TheHaloCouncil, who did a little bit of digging in Halo 4's code and filmed a video showing off these armor abilities that almost were.

iPad mini tipped to make a massive splash in China
We're used to hearing about Apple devices selling out here in the US, and it appears that in China things aren't much different. Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White is saying today that iPad minis are flying off shelves there, after its launch in Hong Kong on back in November and China earlier this month. According to White, many stores in China and Hong Kong are out of stock, while the fourth-generation iPad, which launched at the same time, is still relatively easy to get.

Apple prototypes of the 80′s unveiled
The designer known as Hartmut Esslinger has revealed an amazing treasure trove of never before seen designs from the Apple archives this week in a book by the name of “Design Forward.” This book was launched this week at the opening event of an exhibition by the name of “German Design Standards – from Bauhaus to Globalization” and was delivered first to the folks at Design Boom where they’ve been allowed to display many of the images within. What we’re being shown here is a set of Apple products designed – at least in part – by Hartmut Esslinger himself during his time with what would become one of the most iconic hardware companies in history.
Multiplayer mode confirmed for Tomb Raider reboot
The Tomb Raider franchise will be getting a highly anticipated reboot next year, but when this new game arrives, it will be sporting some features that series veterans will find unfamiliar. After a UK listing for the game set off rumors about a Tomb Raider multiplayer mode, Crystal Dynamics today confirmed it. For better or worse, the next Tomb Raider title will indeed have multiplayer.

Apple drops Samsung Galaxy S III Mini from patent case
Mark one in the win column, folks. Apple has dropped Samsung's latest device, the Galaxy S III Mini, from its patent case against the Korean-based company. Apple agreed in a court filing to drop its infringement claims against the Galaxy S III Mini. Apple initially included the device because it was available for sale through Amazon.com, but Samsung argued that the device had not been officially released in the US, and therefore shouldn't be covered.
