It looks like Runic Games is ending 2012 on a very high note, announcing over Twitter today that Torchlight II has sold more than 1 million copies since its release back in September. In this era of Call of Duty and Skyrim selling millions of copies on launch day, that may not seem like much, but it's important to remember that Runic is a smaller studio without the resources to roll out huge marketing campaigns. Add to that the fact that Torchlight II launched just a few months after Diablo III, and Runic has a lot to celebrate with those 1 million sales.

Torchlight II hits 1 million sales milestone
Capcom planning to release new games for Wii U rather than ports
Now that the Wii U is here, we need some games to play on it. Many publishers have decided to port their older games instead of developing all-new ones in these early days of the console, but Capcom is saying today that it will be focusing on new games when it comes to Wii U development. Sorry Resident Evil fans, but it looks like you won't be getting Resident Evil 6 on the Wii U.

NASA’s Curiosity Mars rover will deliver a “special message” in Times Square tonight
NASA's Curiosity rover has already reached a few milestones, including being the first ever to check in using Foursquare on another planet. Tonight, however, the Mars rover will make an appearance at tonight's New Year's celebrations in New York City's Time Square, where millions will watch the ball drop. The rover is planning to deliver a "special message" on the big screens.

Predictions for Google’s Android in 2013: Freedom for All!
At the start of 2012 the folks at Google were seeing their beloved Android mobile operating system being used on more iPhone clones than we’d care to discuss – near the turn-over to 2013, big manufacturers like Samsung and HTC have made their own hero lines the likes of which Android has never known. What we saw in 2012 was recognition of the model that has worked for Apple extremely well since all the way back in 2007 – a focus on the ecosystem rather than on the individual specifications of any one device. This will continue in a very big way through 2013 with manufacturers holding up a single torch – like the Motorola RAZR brand – to keep themselves lit up brightly.
Fez coming to other platforms, Polytron announces
Polytron's Fez, despite being an indie title that's exclusive to the Xbox 360, was easily one of the best games of the year. It's no surprise, then, that fans are wondering when Polytron will begin porting the game to other platforms, if it ever does at all. We've heard whispers of such ports in the past, but nothing was ever made official... until today, that is.

Nexus 7 gets Open webOS port, still not a viable replacement
While webOS is no longer officially around, thanks to HP's merciless hack and slash last year, developers are still keeping the operating system alive with the Open webOS initiative. We've already seen ASUS's Transformer Prime tablet boot up on Open webOS, but it looks like the Google's own Nexus 7 Android tablet has been given the webOS treatment as well.

Microsoft’s 2012
A lot of companies had a big year – Apple released the highly anticipated iPad mini and iPhone 5, Samsung found a smashing success in the Galaxy S III, Nintendo launched the Wii U, while Google delivered Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and released a number of impressive Nexus devices. Despite all of that, Microsoft arguably had a bigger year than all of them. 2012 was huge with Microsoft, with the release of Windows 8, Microsoft Surface, and Windows Phone 8 all happening in a high-energy span of just a few weeks. It wasn’t so much that these new operating systems and products were released this year either, but rather the fact that Microsoft was taking so many risks with the launch of each and every one.
Mysterious BlackBerry 10 device arrives at FCC
Those who have been following the development of BlackBerry 10 might like to know that a new device has arrived at the FCC. Its model number is RFH121LW, but other than that, we don't know much about this phone. The documents that accompany the filing are merely an exposure report and its appendices, along with some letters and a test report. This means we don't get any images and hardly any idea of the phone's specifications.

President Obama signs bill to extend warrantless phone tapping until 2017
Late last week, the US Senate passed the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Amendments Reauthorization Act that would authorize phone surveillance of Americans without a warrant for counter-terrorism purposes for the next five years. The bill then moved onto the Oval Office, where President Obama signed it last night, officially putting the bill into action.

Google Glass spotted in wild with prescription lenses
Google's Glass wearable computer has been spotted in the wild in New York City, complete with what appears to be integrated prescription lenses. The bright red augmented reality headset - set to ship to developers in $1,500 Explorer Edition form early in the new year - was spotted by a Road to Virtual Reality tipster on what's presumably a lucky Googler testing Glass while out and about.
