Nissan and Sony to offer second season of Nissan GT Academy

The first season of Nissan GT Academy has completed and Nissan and Sony have announced that they have teamed up to bring a second season of Nissan GT Academy competition to the US. The Nissan GT Academy is a competition that takes participants who win online races in a Grand Turismo special series and pits them against each other for the chance to drive a real Nissan racecar. Pantech secures next-generation Android devices with Mocana

Pantech has announced that it will be securing its next-generation Android smartphones and tablets using software from a security firm called Mocana. Mocana's VeloDAR solution will be used to integrate FIPS 140-2 certified encryption capability into new Pantech devices. LTE has gone live in the UK, with EE opening up its 4G doors to subscribers hoping for a little extra boost in their smartphone or mobile hotspot. The launch - which has hardly left rival UK carriers happy, waiting as they are for more spectrum before they stage their own LTE deployment in mid-2013 - sees smartphone plans from £36 per month with a device, while EE is also offering fiber broadband for homes and businesses. Sky+ adds BBC iPlayer for on-demand entertainment

Sky UK has added the BBC's iPlayer video-on-demand service to Sky+, the first time the VoD system has been enabled on the satellite provider's boxes. Requiring a Sky+ HD set-top box, and with content showing up in the Sky On Demand section of the DVR, the new iPlayer addition uses roughly the same interface as its browser-based version, only now no longer requires a laptop be hooked up to the TV. Sony unveils F5 and F55 CineAlto 4k camcorders

Sony has announced the arrival of its two new high-end 4k camcorders, the PMW-F5 and the PMW-F55, which it says is to fill the gap between its PMW-F3 and F65 cameras. These camcorders are aimed at the professional market, and are obvious competitors to the likes of RED. ZTE unveils $160 U950 quad-core smartphone

The world can use a few more low-cost, high-powered smartphones. Chinese manufacturer ZTE has announced its new U950 Android mobile, which features a quad-core processor and a low price tag of $160.
