This morning we're bubbling around in the middle of the week with a mix of Windows Phone 8, iPhone 5 incoming wave madness, and the looming BlackBerry 10 release. Of course there's a lot of non-mobile stuff coming up as well, and we've gone and done a whole car review, but there's always a bunch of phones to love up on! There's also some chip news, apps for the devices you just bought, and no less than sixteen billion new devices in all realms as well - did I mention that I've been gone for a week? That's Chris Burns, gone for a whole week - I'll be writing an article about how it's felt to be out of the loop, so to speak.

Monster Inspiration Active Noise Cancellation Headphones Review
It used to be that you were judged on what music you listened to – now it’s what brand of headphones you choose to listen to it with. Monster segued from cables to cans back in 2008 and, with the dissolution of the Beats Electronics partnership this year, is now pushing its own brand on models like these, the Inspiration. Texas Instruments sidelines phone and tablet chip business
Texas Instruments has announced it will scale back its mobile processor business, no longer targeting smartphones and tablets, but instead eyeing the embedded systems market. The surprise news follows further contractions in TI's business, most recently seeing long-standing customer Motorola pick up Intel's Medfield for the RAZR i, though TI says it will continue to support its existing clients, Reuters reports.

Cloudee simple video sharing hits open beta with iPhone 5 app
Boxee has opened its Cloudee video sharing service up to public beta, with desktop, web, and iPhone apps to streamline distributing videos you might not want to go public with on YouTube. Running in closed beta since June, Cloudee attempts to make small-group video sharing more straightforward, currently offering unlimited online storage and a simple way to distribute access to Facebook friends.

Record-setting space skydive to take place October 8
We talked on more than one occasion about Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner. Baumgartner has been preparing for an attempt to set a record for jumping from the highest altitude in history over the last several months. Blackmagic Cinema Camera delayed after sensor glitch
Blackmagic Design's innovative Cinema Camera has been hamstrung by flaws in the sensor glass, forcing the company to freeze preorder shipments and re-manufacture them with new, fixed components. Initial supplies of the Cinema Camera had been ready to ship a month ago, but failed production testing after blemishes on the sensor marred the final video. After some investigative digging, CEO Grant Petty says, a series of problems were identified at the sensor supplier.

Cable cloud gaming to challenge Xbox, PS3 and Wii U in 2013
The Xbox 360 and PS3 may face cable boxes edging in on their gaming turf if AT&T, Verizon, Time Warner and others have their way, with the promise of cloud gaming delivered direct to TVs bypassing traditional consoles. Trials are set to begin later in 2012, insiders tell Bloomberg, with broad commercial launches in 2013 at the earliest; games would be more advanced than the simple casual titles currently offered by some smart TV platforms.

Google Play celebrates 25bn downloads with $0.25 app promo
Google Play, the company's Android app store, has passed 25bn downloads, and to celebrate Google is running a series of discounts on top titles over the next week. There are now 675,000 apps and games in the former Android Market, Google says, with downloads jumping from the 1bn point in 2010 to a whopping 25bn today. That calls for some significant discounts to mark the occasion.

Consumer Reports slams the Fisker Karma saying it’s “plagued with flaws”
I think most people knew back in March that Consumer Reports' review of the Fisker Karma wasn't going to go well. Consumer Reports ordered up its most expensive car ever for review at over $107,000, and the vehicle broke down before Consumer Reports had finished checking it into its fleet. That initial flaw was foreshadowing for what was to come when the vehicle returned.

Samsung schedules strategy meeting with Google’s Schmidt over Apple’s Android war
Google chairman Eric Schmidt will meet with Samsung execs in South Korea this week, Samsung's mobile chief has revealed, in what's tipped to be an attempt to boost Google's involvement in Android litigation. Shin Jong-kyun declined to specify the agenda for the meeting on Thursday, The Korea Times reports, which will fit in around the launch of the Nexus 7 in Korea. Despite Apple's escalating demands, however, Samsung has increased its handset sales target to 400m for 2012.

RIM gives it the old junior college try, aims for third place
RIM is taking a beating on the modern smartphone market and continues to be unable to muster a device to offer any significant competition to Android or the iPhone. The company has fallen from grace massively from the days when it was the most popular smartphone on the market. RIM CEO Thorsten Heins said this week that in the company's decision to bet it all on the BlackBerry 10 OS would allow the company to grow its user base in the US and North America.
