Walmart announces 100th solar installation in California

You only have to set foot in most Walmart stores to know that the company wants to be green. For instance, in my local store, there are hordes of skylights all around the building in the ceiling and lights in the store turn off and on depending on how much light is coming through those skylights from the outside. That means you to be walking around and suddenly some of the lights turn off making the interior darker. I assume most Walmart locations use similar systems.

HTC removes patent in ITC case against Apple

Here’s a quick refresher on HTC’s legal battle against Apple: the company’s launch of the One X and EVO 4G LTE in the United States was stalled briefly thanks to an import ban handed down by the ITC after the handsets were found to infringe on one of Apple’s patents. Now, in a second case involving the ITC, HTC has had to remove a crucial patent, bringing its total claims down from 8 to 2.

Lexus unveils 2013 LS 460 F Sport luxury car

Lexus has officially unveiled 2013 LS series luxury sedans at a world premiere event held in San Francisco this week. The 2013 LS line includes the LS 460, LS 460L, LS 600hL hybrid, and the LS 460 F Sport. The 2013 model year is the first time and LS 460 F Sport model has been offered. The standard LS 460 and the LS 460L are both offered in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive versions and the LS Hybrid is only offered with full-time all-wheel drive.

The Nexus 7 has been shipping out to customers across Europe and the United States, but accessories for Google’s affordable tablet have been lacking. There’s a simple polyurethane cover, but no premium options or docks of any kind. Nordic Hardware has spied some slides that detail some accessories that are on the way from ASUS, including a premium leather cover, desktop dock for the tablet, and 10W power charger.

Apple “fighting over rectangles” says Samsung product head

Samsung's product lead has lashed out at Apple's design patent case, describing the jury trial as "fighting over rectangles" and blaming the Cupertino firm for being trigger-happy when it comes to litigation. "In the current environment, there's just one company that's firing the first shot consistently" chief product officer Kevin Packingham told Wired. "Most everyone else seems to be getting along really well." The Apple vs. Samsung case kicked off in San Jose on Monday this week, with jury selection taking place; Samsung argues that Apple's interpretation of design patents for the iPad and iPhone are too broad, with Packingham claiming Apple is "defying common sense."

SlashGear Evening Wrap-Up: July 30, 2012

Well folks, another Monday is in the bag. We must say that for an otherwise ordinary Monday at the end of July, this one was pretty eventful as far as news stories go. Most importantly, today marked the beginning of the patent trail between Samsung and Apple. This morning we took a closer look at the trial and the arguments being made by both sides, while later on in the day we received word that a key witness in the case won't be showing up to testify. Apple's courtroom woes don't end at its trial with Samsung, however, as the company is also being sued over its Siri technology by a university in Taiwan.

Modern Warfare 3 September DLC images leaked

We've got a slew of Modern Warfare 3 rumors to tell you about today, so sit down and strap in. We may have received our first glimpse at Activision's September DLC offerings for the immensely popular military shooter, which will apparently add three new maps to the game: Boardwalk, Gulch, and Parish. The images were initially leaked by Youtube user Gamecheat13 along with a gameplay video that gives us a preview of the Parish map. The video has since been removed, but not before MP1st could snatch up the images and post them for all the Internet to see.

Capcom posts strong financial report for Q1 2012

Capcom is looking pretty good at the end of its first quarter for the year, thanks in no small part to the success of Dragon's Dogma. We've known for a while that Dragon's Dogma has passed 1 million units shipped, but today Capcom reiterated that figure - along with the intention of turning Dragon's Dogma into a series - in its quarterly report. Total Dragon's Dogma shipments currently sit at 1.05 million, with the game doing particularly well in Japan.
