Delta Airlines will be expanding WiFi access to more than 150 international aircraft including Boeing 777, 767, 747, Airbus 330 and transoceanic Boeing 757 starting at the beginning of 2013. Existing air-to-ground service has been conveniently available on domestic flights within the US, but international access has always been constrained by this ground-based technology normally used by airlines.

Researchers find drones vulnerable to GPS spoofing
Drones continue to see large rollouts in various industries across the world, and now there’s one more thing to worry about on top of privacy issues and potential death from above. A team at the University of Texas has managed to find a vulnerability in drones that allows an attacker to gain control of the unmanned vehicle and change its course. Professor Todd Humphreys and the team spoof GPS receivers in order to take control of the drones.

HP reportedly first to ditch Windows RT tablet plans over Microsoft’s Surface
Microsoft has so alienated Windows RT tablet manufacturers with its own-brand Surface that OEMs are abandoning the platform, insiders claim, with HP leading the way in ditching its roadmap. The PC company had intended to launch a number of Qualcomm-powered Windows RT models, it’s said, but according to SemiAccurate‘s sources HP dropped its plans after Microsoft’s handling of Surface and OS licensing.
O2 Secure Wireless announces first store and new Android devices
O2 Secure Wireless, a company that currently works in the development of US wireless tower facilities and offers other broadband communication services, has announced that their first retail store in Palm Beach, FL is set to open July 9 offering a range of wireless services and products. The store will sell phone parts and offer performance repairs on the types of phones mostly commonly seen today.

Google admits MacBook Chrome crash bug
Google has admitted that its Chrome browser is the cause of MacBook stability problems, with an incompatibility between the app and the integrated Intel graphics leading to crashes. "Work is proceeding to find and fix the root cause" a Google spokesperson told Gizmodo, though the company does splash a little of the blame onto Apple itself and the way OS X Lion is handling kernel issues.

Boxee and Comcast reveal cable encryption workaround
Comcast and Boxee are collaborating on a new system that could eventually replace CableCARD and allow third-party set-top boxes like the Boxee Box to access encrypted all-digital cable broadcasts. The two companies detailed the proposed approach in a joint FCC filing, initially using an external cable box that would hook up to STBs via ethernet, but eventually migrating to a licensed integrated digital transport adapter (Integrated DTA) that would provide a more streamlined solution.

Oh RIM. Where did it all go wrong? The company has been flailing for some time now, but its dismal financials on the latest earnings call paired with the announcement that BlackBerry 10 won’t make an appearance until the first quarter of next year has almost certainly sealed RIM’s fate. It’s not quite the end of the road just yet, but the light at the end of the tunnel is growing dimmer with each passing day.
Android BlackBerry could be QWERTY heaven says Google design chief
Things aren’t looking good for RIM. The Q1 2013 fiscal results showed a massive loss, 5,000 jobs need to be cut from the company, and BlackBerry 10 has been delayed until next year. Reuters reported earlier this morning that Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer approached the troubled company in the past, courting them for a potential Windows Phone tie-up. RIM could turn towards Android too, with Google’s Matias Duarte believing the company could make some great Android hardware.

Star eruption likely caused distant planet’s atmosphere to evaporate
Scientists have been studying an exoplanet dubbed HD 189733b as it passes in front of its parent star dubbed HD 189733A. The reason scientists and researchers are scrutinizing this planet and star pair with the Hubble space telescope is because the planet appears to have an atmosphere that is quickly evaporating. The planet and star were first discovered in 2010 and was observed again in 2011 following a large solar flare from the star.

Google: Nexus 7 is proof we won’t give Motorola special treatment
Google has explained why it selected ASUS rather than Motorola Mobility for the Nexus 7 tablet, arguing that the good of the Android ecosystem is more important than giving the US company preferential treatment. "We acquired Motorola to help the ecosystem in terms of patents and intellectual property" director of Android partner engineering Patrick Brady told CNET, though conceded that he could understand other partners looking on with some skepticism and fear.
